As the night deepened, the sounds of the infected outside grew louder. The sanctuary's generators hummed, providing the only light in the darkness. The group had set up a perimeter, but they knew it was only a matter of time before the infected breached their defenses.

"Sarah, we need to reinforce the perimeter," Elena called out, her voice tinged with urgency.

Sarah nodded, rushing to the supply room. "I'm on it."

Elena turned to Jack. "Jack, you and Alex, check the generator room. Make sure it's secure."

Jack and Alex nodded, disappearing into the shadows. The tension in the air was palpable. The group had been on edge for days, knowing that the infected were growing in number and strength.

Suddenly, a loud crash echoed through the building. "What was that?" Sarah asked, her voice trembling.

"Stay here," Elena replied, grabbing her weapon. She rushed to the source of the noise, only to find the generator room door swinging open. The infected were pouring in.

"Jack! Alex! Get back here!" Elena shouted, firing her weapon into the crowd. The infected stumbled, but they were relentless.

Jack and Alex appeared, their weapons blazing. "We're coming, Elena!"

Elena turned back to the oncoming horde, her heart pounding. "Hold the line!"

The battle was fierce. The infected were overwhelming, their numbers too great to handle. But the survivors fought with a desperation that stemmed from their knowledge that this was their last stand.

"Sarah, we need more vaccines," Elena called out, her voice barely above the din.

Sarah nodded, rushing to the supply room. She returned with a stack of vaccines, handing them to Elena. "Here, use these to slow them down."

Elena took the vaccines, injecting them into the infected. The effects were immediate. The infected stumbled, their movements slowing. It was a temporary reprieve, but it was enough.

"Jack, Alex, let's retreat to the main room," Elena ordered. The three of them made their way through the corridors, the infected hot on their heels.

As they reached the main room, Elena turned to Sarah. "Sarah, you need to get to the lab. We need to find a way to stop this."

Sarah nodded, her eyes filled with fear but determination. "I'll do whatever it takes."

Elena turned back to Jack and Alex. "We need to hold them off. They're almost here."
